Koniemłoty

Koniemłoty is a village located in Połaniec Basin, about 5 km to the south-west of Staszów. Koniemłoty is one of the oldest villages in Staszów County.

Koniemłoty initially belonged to the Holy Cross Benedictine Order, under the decree of king Bolesław Chrobry, who visited the village in 1246. In 1270 king Bolesław V the Chaste protected Koniemłoty – along with other property of the Benedictine Order – from war expeditions marauding through Poland. In 1351 king Casimir III the Great transferred Koniemłoty over to German jurisdiction.

In 1527 Koniemłoty became property of Łaski noble family, heirs of Staszów. That change of ownership was officially approved on January 5th of 1527 during Kraków Sejm. The Benedictines gave away Koniemłoty, Tuklęcz, and Święcica, receiving in turn Skała, Czazów, and half of Dąbrowa. Additionally, the monks were granted rights to logging and pasturing at that property. They also retained their ability to nominate parsons of Koniemłoty church and remained parish overseers until 1819, when the Holy Cross cloister was closed. The next owners of Koniemłoty were the Zborowski family (1581-1586) and Tęczyński family (1586-1639). After Izabela Tęczyńska married Łukasz Opaliński (who was Court Marshal of the Crown), Rytwiany and Koniemłoty effectively became property of Opaliński noble family. Koniemłoty were later inherited by several other noble families throughout the years: the Lubomirski, Sieniawski, Denhoff, Czartoryski, Lubomirski, Potocki and Radziwiłł families have all owned Koniemłoty at one point in time.

By the end of 1999 Koniemłoty had 669 inhabitants, in 2006 – 697 residents, in 2012 – 686 residents, and by the end of 2015 there were 696 people living there.
